Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Common questions about Kaptur usage, privacy, synchronization, risk management, trade planner, and subscriptions.
1. Data Privacy and Security
Is my financial data uploaded to the cloud?
No. Kaptur operates under a strict privacy-first philosophy with local processing. All your trades, screenshots, notes, and balances are stored exclusively on your device's local internal storage. We do not maintain central servers that collect or store your financial history.
What happens if I lose my phone? How can I recover my data?
Since your data is stored exclusively on your device, Kaptur cannot recover your information for you if you lose or damage your phone. To protect your progress, we recommend generating encrypted backups periodically via Settings > Backup & Restore (by tapping the Export button) and sharing the resulting .kptr file to your personal cloud storage (e.g., Google Drive) or an external physical drive. You will set a personal backup password, which is mandatory to decrypt and restore your data in the future.
How does Privacy Mode work?
Privacy Mode allows you to temporarily hide your sensitive balances and dollar amounts on main screens by replacing them with visual privacy chips. You can quickly toggle this mode in two ways:
- Shaking your phone while the application is open.
- Long-pressing the main balance in the trading panel.
2. Smart Scanner (OCR) and Journaling
How does the screenshot scanner work?
Kaptur features a local text recognition engine. When you select screenshots of your broker's transaction tickets, the app analyzes the image locally and extracts essential data: asset (ticker), action (buy or sell), quantity, execution price, commission, and net P&L. This entire process runs offline and privately on your phone.
Why are some images marked as "Pending Review"?
If a screenshot has a low resolution, uses an unusual text format from your broker, or lacks mandatory data (like the transaction direction), the local scanner might flag it for review. Kaptur will direct you to an interactive review screen where you can manually adjust or complete the fields before finalizing the trade in your journal.
What is the Gallery Auto-Clean feature?
After successfully importing a batch of screenshots, Kaptur will ask if you want to delete the processed images from your phone's gallery to save space. This action always requires system-level confirmation from you to prevent accidental deletions.
What is a "Ghost Trade"?
A Ghost Trade is an operation you analyzed and intended to take but ultimately skipped due to fear, strategy doubts, lack of liquidity, or lack of time. Kaptur allows you to log these missed opportunities along with the emotions that caused your hesitation, enabling you to objectively compare theoretical results against your active trading. It helps you measure the actual financial cost of emotional decisions.
3. Multi-Device Synchronization
How do I sync my journal between two devices?
Kaptur allows you to keep your trading log in sync across multiple devices with secure end-to-end encryption. Pairing is completed by displaying a secure pairing configuration on one device and scanning its code with the other. You can choose two synchronization modes:
- Local Wi-Fi Sync: If both devices are on the same local network, you can enable the direct Wi-Fi server mode on the sender to transfer data without using the internet.
- Remote Sync: Configure a shared sync key and a secure connection server.
4. Risk Management and Planner
What is the Planner (Trade Plan)?
The Planner is an integrated tool (also known as Trade Plan GPS) that allows you to turn your long-term financial goals into a daily action plan and daily trading targets based on your available capital.
What levels or modes are available in the Planner?
You can select predefined targets based on different difficulty levels (Starter, Growth, Momentum, Accelerator, Elite) or design a Tailored Plan where you define your starting capital, target balance, expected return per trade (%), and deadline in trading days.
How does the Planner calculate daily goals?
When configuring your plan, you can choose between two calculation methods:
- Linear: Uses a constant fixed monetary daily goal, assuming one qualifying trade per trading day.
- Compound: Applies the expected return percentage to the growing accumulated balance, simulating the effect of compound interest day by day.
How does the Planner measure my real progress against the theoretical one?
The Planner generates a dynamic comparison chart with two lines: the Theoretical Curve (the ideal path to reach the goal within the deadline) and the Real Curve (your actual net imported performance). It also shows "Today's Mission" with your daily profit target and suggested maximum risk per trade to keep you on track.
What happens if I cancel or abandon my active plan?
You can cancel your plan at any time from the plan details. Cancelling a plan will not delete any of the trades imported into your journal; it will simply stop the dynamic tracking of that specific goal and allow you to start a new plan.
How does the Daily Drawdown Limit work?
The daily loss limit is your primary guardrail against undisciplined behavior. If you reach your selected loss limit in your plan risk configurations, Kaptur alerts you to stop trading. Important: To prevent you from impulsively changing this limit mid-session during a difficult trading day (which would compromise your discipline streak), any update to your daily drawdown limit does not apply immediately. It is scheduled to take effect automatically starting from the next market cycle (tomorrow at 00:00 EST).
What is the Pre-Market Ritual?
It is a local discipline reminder that you can schedule at your preferred time before the market opens. Kaptur sends a local notification inviting you to swipe through and review your 5 unbreakable Playbook rules to align your mindset before taking your first trade of the day.
5. Accounting Methods (Lot Matching)
How does Kaptur match my sales with purchases to calculate P&L?
Kaptur offers total flexibility to match your exit executions with entries to compute net realized P&L and exact trade cycle durations. You can change the accounting method from the transaction detail screen:
- FIFO (First In, First Out): Matches the sale with your oldest purchases.
- LIFO (Last In, First Out): Matches the sale with your most recent purchases.
- Average Cost: Matches the sale using the weighted average cost of all your entries.
- Specific Lots (Manual): Lets you manually choose which purchase units you want to pair with the current sale.
- Broker reported: Displays the raw data originally reported by your broker without any recalculation.
6. Kaptur PRO and Discipline Rewards
What does Kaptur PRO include compared to the Free version?
